Scutellaria baicalensis and Acacia catechu
A clinical trial was conducted to examine the effect of a natural proprietary blend of Scutellaria baicalensis and Acacia catechu on knee joint pain, mobility, and biomarkers of inflammation in comparison to naproxen. Seventy-nine men and women (aged 40–90) diagnosed with mild to moderate osteoarthritis (OA) consumed either the blend supplement or naproxen for one week.
Collagen
A conducted a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial investigated the efficacy of hydrolyzed chicken collagen type II (HCII) in reducing joint-related discomfort. Adults aged 40–65 who had joint discomfort but had no co-morbidities were enrolled in the study and were randomized to receive either the HCII supplement or a placebo for eight weeks.
Results showed an improvement in the WOMAC stiffness and physical activity domains and in the overall WOMAC score in the HCII group with a significant reduction in joint-related discomforts compared to the placebo group. For instance, at week 4, the HCII group had a 36.9% reduction in the overall WOMAC score, compared with a 14.3% reduction in the placebo group.
Vitamin C
Vitamin D
Another study evaluates the benefits of vitamin D for knee osteoarthritis and overall physical performance.
Manganese
A study evaluated the effect of manganese on metabolic health, bone density, and connective tissue integrity.
